The work consisted in the final design of mechanical and electrical systems for the adaption to fire protection standards of public school buildings. The school facilities, located in Rome, showed different characteristics in terms of technical, functional and distribution issues, along with different requirements about heating, sanitary hot water production and electrical systems; the design proposal thus optimized operating and managing costs, also keeping the highest flexibility of use of the various spaces, while reducing conventional energy sources consumption (gas and electricity). The design relied on both “passive” (building enclosure, walls, stories, roof etc.), and “active” energy factors, by means of photovoltaic/solar systems for electricity and heating production, special equipment and technological devices for energy efficiency improvement.
